Ballet Flow - how it all began..

After doing Barre Attack classes and becoming an instructor and teaching it for about 2.5 years, I was also engaged to teach adult ballet classes (Ballet 101). I realised that there are a growing number of adults wanting to learn to dance and in particular, ballet. Those who become involve in other types of dancing, for example Latin dancing, etc., they realised that they needed ballet and they seek ballet classes or other ballet-type of classes.

Seeing a gap between barre fitness and ballet, Ballet Flow is born.

What is Ballet Flow?

When I first taught this for the very first time, the adult students were puffing with exhaustion. They called it “Ballet barre on steroids”.

The Ballet Flow classes are simply ballet-inspired, incorporating ballet barre, doing ballet-type exercises from plies, tendus, fondus, Adage, developpes followed by centre practise which may include exercises for pirouettes, developpes, and simple enchainment from corner of room.
Essentially, the Ballet Barre Fitness class is simply training exercises done repetitively to achieve students understanding in certain ballet techniques, as well as create muscle memories and muscle strengths in the specific target muscle areas. Most of the moves are set to motivating music. In each ballet exercises, barre, they are meant to sculpt, tone, stretch and strengthen the entire body whilst giving a good workout.

In this Ballet Flow class, centre practice such as pirouette, simple enchainment from the corner of the room may be introduced to encourage and give students the opportunity to ‘dance’, to travel across the room and create spatial awareness.
